Oxshott Royals Rebels 7 Woking Town Tigers 0

Oxshott celebrated a 7-0 win that saw them end 2008 unbeaten in the league throughout the year and top of the table.

Tough opened the scoring in the 10th minute, starting the move in the Royals’ penalty box and sprinting up the pitch to accept a pass from Brett before firing the ball past the keeper.

Six minutes later Oxshott went 2-0 ahead courtesy of a clinically despatched shot from Brett, who also scored the third, turning a defender before running on to send the ball into the Woking net.

Oxshott went into the break 3-0 ahead and they took just nine minutes of the second period to extend their lead to five. First Mughal chipped the ball over the defence for Dunsire to hammer the ball home, then a Tough head flick set Mugal up to chip the ball over the keeper for number five.

At 5-0, the game petered out and it took until the 72nd minute for Oxshott to score their sixth, Tough winning the ball in midfield, speeding down the wing and sending in a cross that beat the keeper and ended up in the net.

Royals wrapped up the scoring a minute from time when Nichols had a shot saved by the keeper but fired in the rebound.

It was another good, if rather muted, performance by Oxshott who can enjoy the Christmas break looking down at the rest of the division.

Man of the match was Mughal, who, in addition to scoring a well-taken goal, put in a tremendously gutsy performance throughout.

Claygate Royals Swans 2 Oxshott Royals Rebels 3 (a.e.t.)

A goal six minutes from the end of extra time sealed a cup upset for Oxshott in what was a physical and bad tempered tie.
Oxshott opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Brett on the right centred for Neuner to shoot home.

Royals appeared likely to stretch their lead 20 minutes later when Nicholls, in excellent form throughout, earned Oxshott a penalty, only for Claygate’s keeper, to guess correctly and block Nicholls’ resultant spot kick.

As the game became more bad tempered and physical, both sides had their chances but it was Claygate who sneaked an equaliser just second before the break to send the two teams in level.

Oxshott were rocked again just a minute into the second half when Swans took the lead following a goalmouth scramble.

Royals kept their heads, however, and pulled level again just ten minutes later when Smith sent Brett free to coolly shoot the ball past the advancing Claygate keeper.

The game seesawed from end to end for the remainder of the half, with Oxshott having their fair share of chances but failing to put them away. At the other end Claygate too looked threatening but made little of their opportunities thanks largely to a tremendous performance by the Oxshott defence, with Dolce, Crane, Bishop, Hawkins, Farrow and keeper Frazer solid throughout.

With five minutes of regulation time remaining it was Farrow who cleared the ball off the Oxshott line to take the game into 20 minutes of extra time.

Forced to replace Tough and Dolce earlier in the game due to injury, Royals found themselves unable to make substitutions as extra time advanced and the team began to look tired.

Undaunted, however, they continued to take the game to Claygate and were rewarded with just over five minutes of extra time left when Brett, running on to a through pass from Bryant, chipped the keeper to sneak the ball in below the crossbar for the winner.

In a game that constantly threatened to bubble over, it was a typically gutsy performance from Oxshott, driven on by strong midfield performances from Neuner, Tough, Bryant, Smith, Mughal and Dunsire.

Man of the match was Brett, who, despite receiving more than his fair share of physical attention, found the net twice and ran tirelessly throughout the game.

Guildford City Leopards 2 Oxshott Royals Rebels 7

Five first-half goals ended this game as a contest and helped Oxshott to a victory that keeps them ahead of the chasing pack at the top of the table.

Brett opened the scoring with a screaming shot from the edge of the area which rocketed into the top corner of the net.

Ten minutes later Dunsire threaded the ball through the Guildford defence before driving the ball home to make it 2-0.

With Oxshott dominating play, Brett notched Royals’ third, and his own second, after 24 minutes when he locked on to a long clearance from midfield and ran through to shoot past the Guildford keeper.

Just three minutes later Brett completed his hat-trick when he won the ball in the centre circle and ran the full length of the opposition half before sending the ball past the keeper to give Royals a 4-0 advantage.

Completing the first half scoring, Mughal grabbed Oxshott’s fifth just three minutes from the break when he latched on to a loose ball following a goalmouth scramble.

Royals moved Crane into attack at the interval, one of a number of half-time changes, and ten minutes into the second period he ran on to a through pass and shot the ball past the advancing Guildford keeper for Royals’ sixth.

Oxshott wrapped up their scoring in the 68th minute when Brett on the right wing crossed for Neuner to shoot home goal number seven from the far post.

The final 10 minutes saw Guildford, who battled valiantly throughout, score two consolation goals to make the final score 7-2.

Man of the match was Farrow who put in an excellent shift at the back.

Walton Casuals Mayans 3 Oxshott Royals Rebels 4

A tremendous fighting second-half performance saw Oxshott battle back from 3-1 down to extend their 100% league record with a victory over promotion rivals Walton.

Royals found themselves one down after just eight minutes but almost immediately pulled level again when Brett ran on to a through ball and shot past the Casuals keeper.

Just after the half-hour mark, however, with the game flowing from end to end, Walton again took the lead to go in at the interval one goal to the better.

As the rain that had punctuated the match began to reach monsoon proportions, just one minute after the break Walton increased their lead to 3-1.

Not for the first time, however, adversity brought out the best in Royals and the team moved up a gear and began bombarding the Walton goal.

A Tough in-swinging corner in the 55th minute was met by the head of Hawkins, who glanced the ball home to pull the deficit back to 3-2, and just two minutes later Dunsire scored the first of a brace from the right flank to bring the scores level.

Stand-in keeper Dolce made a spectacular save with the teams level at 3-3 before Dunsire made a lightning run down the right wing, cut in, and fired the ball into the left-hand corner past the Walton keeper for Royals’ winner.

Man of the match was Hawkins who, in addition to his goal, put in a strong shift at the back in a team performance every one of the boys should be thoroughly proud of.

ROYALS CONQUER HOLLAND AND GERMANY (sort of!!) 0

On Monday 27th October 2008, the Oxshott Royals Under 17 Squad under Manager Mike Smith and Coaches Chez Cornelli and Mark Jarman plus “Super Fan”, dad John Symes stormed into Maastricht, Holland (they went by coach actually) to play one Dutch side and two German…that’s German sides, not just 2 germans against a full squad..but I digress…The Stayokay Hostel welcomed the Squad with open arms then immediately insisted on 400 Euros deposit against possible room damage !

A quick wander into Maastricht proved interesting, nice place, sort of larger Cobham with history…expensive shops and loads of students as it is a renowned University town.

Game 1 next day meant a 2 hour drive to Viola, where we played with committment on a reasonable grass pitch, something we would come to pine for later on in our travels.  It was a fair game and goals from Micah Pedersen, Freddie Bell &  Alec McDonald  meant we ran out winners by 3 - 1….back to hostel late…bed…early breakfast (for those who got up !) then free time in the town…

Wednesday we travelled to the next game over the border in Germany to Munchen Gladbach.  Good game…1 - 1..should have won but lack of sleep didn’t help..also, GRAVEL PITCH, that was waterlogged..much use of medical kit and a lot of Royal blood was left on German soil…errr…gravel !!

More late night chats n’ revellry…Thursday morning spent wandering, recovering from chinese meals and McDonalds….back over the border for our third game in 3 days, again on gravel and against some big lads.  Now we are not ones to complain about age, but three of our opponents had beards and two had kids!!….we were 3 nil down by half time and then they substituted their more “senior players” with lads approaching our age….one German lad got sent off twice, only to re-appear on the pitch minutes later…on questioning this, we were told “In Germany ve hav the sin bin”….nice to be told that during the game !!….we scored so we won the second half 1 - 0 !!!….also their sin bin player would miss 6 games or 3 months out whichever was the longer, so there is justice.

Back to Maastricht….Argentinian steak house meal in town then an all out assault in local bar.  Much singing, dancing and….well….what goes on tour, stays on tour !!

Bleary eyed but happy, we started back to Blighty at 10am on Friday morning…coach, ferry, back in Cobham for 7:30pm…another great trip, wonderful memories…and we managed to secure a light in one room with duck tape so we did get our deposit back !!

Under 15’s Roundup - 20/10/2008 0

Lyne FC Silver 1 Oxshott Royals Rebels 7

Oxshott extended their winning run to five games, securing their victory early with four first-half goals, to stay top of the table.

Royals opened the scoring after only six minutes when a long corner was sent back across the goal for Smith to tap home. Despite numerous scoring opportunities, however, the away side had to wait until the half-hour mark for their second, a Dunsire pass sending Brett through to fire the ball past the advancing keeper.

The visitors were rocked when, against the run of play, Lyne pulled one back in the 37th minute after the ball slipped through the otherwise reliable Frazer’s hands, but Royals hit back just two minutes later when the Lyne defence cleared a corner only as far as Neuner who thundered the ball into the net to give Oxshott a 3-1 advantage.

Two minutes from the end of the half, Brett ran on to a through ball to shoot Oxshott into a 4-1 lead and the same player sent a low ball across the goal for Tough to drill the ball home for the fifth just two minutes into the second period.

In the 51st minute, Brett latched onto a looping ball from Tough and sent the ball over the keeper’s head for number six, before Neuner blasted home his second goal four minutes later to wrap up the scoring.

The Royals’ defence of Hawkins, Dolce, Bishop and Crane never looked troubled, while in the centre of midfield Bryant gave his usual solid performance, despite playing with a knee injury, and Mughal spread the ball around well, regularly releasing Brett and Dunsire.

Man of the match was Neuner, who brought a sense of urgency to the side when he came on and scored two perfectly hit goals.
